Benefits
Fewer roll changes through largest winding diameters up to 3,000 mm — specifically for nonwoven production lines
Automatic roll change at full production speed onto adhesive-prepared cores
Optimal winding results through controlled surface winding from first to last layer — even during roll change
Winding tension and contact pressure each selectable via characteristic curve — 2D pressure measurement system for permanent monitoring
Automatic web blow-in at high speed via pivoting conveyor table
Expandable base machine — the SW-R can be equipped with winding shaft magazine, automatic shaft feeding, edge and slit trimming as well as roll and shaft handling

Applications
The SOMATEC SW-R is the contact winder with reversible winding direction — for processes with two-sided coating or alternating web run directions. Processes all converting materials.
Adhesive tape production — Non-stop winding of self-adhesive webs, tape substrates and release liners
Coated films — Freshly coated webs with sensitive surfaces
PVC films with decor — Decorative films for flooring and furniture surfaces
Artificial leather — PVC and PU artificial leather webs with sensitive embossing
Packaging films — High-quality films with quality requirements for winding
Nonwoven processing — Nonwovens for hygiene and medical
Flooring production — Wear layers, decorative films and carrier webs
Technical textiles and papers — Coated and finished webs
Why the SW-R?
The SW-R achieves winding diameters up to 3,000 mm, significantly reducing the number of roll changes. Controlled surface winding from first to last layer is permanently monitored by a two-dimensional pressure measurement system. The additional center drive at each winding station ensures gentle start-up winding. Automatic web blow-in via the pivoting conveyor table enables roll change at full speed.
Typical Configurations
Nonwoven line: SW-R with automatic shaft feeding and winding shaft magazine for maximum productivity at largest roll diameters
Nonwoven production: SW-R with 2D pressure measurement system and edge/slit trimming for consistent winding quality
High automation: SW-R with automatic roll and shaft handling for uninterrupted production operation

Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes the SW-R from other contact winders? — The SW-R is the reversible variant — it can operate in both winding directions. Ideal for applications where the web side needs to be changed or the material processed from both sides.
In which processes is the SW-R used? — Coating lines with two-sided coating, laminating/delaminating applications, and processes with alternating winding directions.
How does the consultation work? — SOMATEC advises on selecting the right contact winder type and coordinates project execution.
