Surface WinderSurface winder with motor-driven support roll up to 3,000 mm — for demanding materials
1 / 5
The SOMATEC SW-S is a contact winder (surface winder) in reinforced design for heavy rolls and high web tensions. Winding hardness is controlled via the contact roller — not through web tension — ideal for sensitive, coated or tacky materials with high basis weight.

Benefits
Automatic roll change at full production speed onto adhesive-prepared cores — fold-free with electric TAC application system
Optimal support of the winding roll through driven support roller — prevents deflection especially during multiple-up winding
Optimal winding results through surface winding from first to last layer — no lateral displacement during multiple-up winding
Winding tension and contact pressure each selectable via characteristic curve — winding structure controllable at all times, even during roll change
For longitudinal cuts down to 70 mm web width no extra roll slitter required
Large finished roll diameters in the smallest space through compact design
Expandable base machine — the SW-S can be equipped with gap winding, edge and slit trimming as well as roll and shaft handling

Applications
The SOMATEC SW-S is the reinforced contact winder solution for heavy, sensitive materials. Processes all web-based materials with high basis weight under controlled winding conditions.
Adhesive tape production — Non-stop winding of self-adhesive webs, tape substrates and release liners
Coated films — Freshly coated webs with sensitive surfaces
PVC films with decor — Decorative films for flooring and furniture surfaces
Artificial leather — PVC and PU artificial leather webs with sensitive embossing
Packaging films — High-quality films with quality requirements for winding
Nonwoven processing — Nonwovens for hygiene and medical
Flooring production — Wear layers, decorative films and carrier webs
Technical textiles and papers — Coated and finished webs
Why the SW-S?
The driven support roller is the distinguishing feature of the SW-S — it supports the winding roll throughout the entire winding process and significantly improves winding results. Tension and contact pressure can be regulated even during roll change. For longitudinal cuts down to 70 mm web width no extra roll slitter is required. The automatic roll change is fold-free with electric TAC application system.
Typical Configurations
In-line production: SW-S with integrated slitting and support roller for multiple-up winding without deflection
Paper finishing: SW-S with optional gap winding and controllable contact pressure for sensitive materials
High productivity: SW-S with automatic roll and shaft handling and TAC roll change system

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the SW-S more suitable than the SW-E? — The SW-S is the reinforced variant for heavy rolls and high web tensions. When the material is robust and requires high winding forces, the SW-S is the right choice.
What materials are typically processed with the SW-S? — Heavy PVC films, flooring, thick composite films, roofing membranes and technical textiles with high basis weight.
How does the SW-S ensure uniform winding? — The contact pressure is precisely controlled via the contact roller. Air inclusions are prevented and winding hardness remains constant across the entire roll diameter.
Is consulting by SOMATEC possible? — Yes — we analyze your requirements and recommend the optimal SOMATEC configuration.
