Turret UnwinderFlexible for various core formats — shaftless roll support
1 / 4
The SOMATEC UW-C is an automatic turret unwinder in shaftless design. Rolls are clamped directly via chucks without winding shafts — ideal for frequently changing roll widths, as width differences up to 250 mm are compensated steplessly. The overlap splice runs automatically at full production speed for uninterrupted non-stop operation.

Applications
The SOMATEC UW-C processes virtually all web-based materials — particularly efficient with frequently changing roll widths. The shaftless support compensates width differences up to 250 mm without mechanical changeover.
Flexible production — Applications with frequently changing material widths and formats
Film converting — Packaging films, technical films, shrink and barrier films
Adhesive tape industry — Tape substrates and release liners in varying widths
Nonwoven processing — Nonwovens for hygiene, medical and filtration
Flooring production — PVC flooring (LVT, vinyl) and carrier webs
Artificial leather production — PVC and PU artificial leather webs
Paper and board processing — Coating and lamination lines
Technical textiles and roofing — Geotextiles, vapor barriers, sealing films
Why the UW-C?
Robust construction, sophisticated roll change systems and perfect control make the SOMATEC UW-C an absolutely process-reliable component. The shaftless design enables variable support of cardboard or steel cores. Core widths may vary within ±100 mm — for larger core widths, the versatile turret unwinder UW-S is recommended. An optional web joining system without preparation of the new roll is available, significantly reducing setup times. Thick and tough materials can also be cut with the active striking knife.
Typical Configurations
Flexible production: UW-C with motorized mandrel adjustment for quick changeover between different core formats for nonwovens, papers and films
Thick materials: UW-C with active striking knife for reliable cutting in converting, coating and lamination lines
Optimized setup: UW-C with web joining system without preparation of the new roll, lifting arms and lifting table for roll loading

Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes the UW-C from the UW-E? — The UW-C is optimized for compact installation situations. Where space for a standard turret unwinder is limited, the UW-C offers the same functionality in a reduced footprint — without compromising web tension and changeover accuracy.
What materials is the UW-C suitable for? — Films, paper, nonwovens, composite materials and technical textiles. Web tension is precisely controllable throughout the entire unwind.
Can the UW-C be retrofitted? — Yes — SOMATEC offers the UW-C also as a retrofit solution for existing lines. SOMATEC checks the installation situation and supports the integration.
How does the roll change work? — On-the-fly, without production stop. While one roll is being unwound, the next can be prepared.
How do I decide between UW-E, UW-C and UW-S? — SOMATEC analyzes your requirements for installation space, roll weight, web tension and speed and recommends the appropriate variant.
