The dryer is often the bottleneck in the line. Single tube IR lamps are the fastest solution to make existing drying and heating sections more powerful — as a booster retrofit or as individually switchable zones in IR fields. Like all SOPARA IR lamps, single tube systems work with separately mounted reflectors without active cooling.

Benefits

Easy Clean Design — Separately accessible reflectors — cleanable and replaceable without lamp removal. Consistently high reflection performance even in contaminated industrial environments with plasticizer vapors or coating mist.
System efficiency — No active reflector cooling required. No process heat lost through cooling air. Often 20–30% higher energy efficiency at field level compared to conventional systems.
Booster capability — Retrofittable into existing convection drying sections — often the fastest and most economical solution for capacity bottlenecks. No line modification required.
Compact diameter — Ø 10–19 mm enables dense installation and fine zone division — ideal for IR fields with many independently controllable zones.
Fast response time — Full power in 1 second (SW) or 3–10 seconds (MW). Instant protection during line stops, no energy loss in standby.

Available variants

Short-wave (SW): 0.8–1.5 µm, up to 500 kW/m², response time ~1 second, tungsten filament. Typical for curing, composites, boosters. Medium-wave (MW): 2–4 µm, up to 70 kW/m², response time 3–10 seconds, tungsten/NiCr/carbon fiber. Typical for coating drying, lamination.

Available Options

Various tube diameters — 10, 11, 12, 15, 19 mm depending on power requirement
Carbon fiber filament — optimized MW emission, barely visible light, up to 30% less energy
Partial heating — heated zone shorter than total length for targeted heating
Ceramic coating on tube — integrated reflector as alternative
Ruby glass filter — reduction of visible light (SW only)
Modified filament guide for vertical operation
More options on request

Applications

Pre-drying as booster zone in existing convection dryers — compact retrofit installation, often the fastest solution for capacity bottlenecks. Coating drying on films, flooring and artificial leather products, textiles, paper and nonwovens — water-based and solvent-based.

Ink drying in flexo and gravure printing — individually switchable lamps enable fine zone division
Adhesive drying in laminating lines for packaging films, labels, technical tapes and composites
Paint drying and adhesive activation on individual parts and profiles
For machine builders: Single tube lamps as standard components in new machines — or as custom IR modules with reflector
For plant operators: The most economical way to make an existing line faster — a compact booster module before convection drying can significantly increase line speed

Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes single-tube from twin-tube IR lamps? — A single-tube lamp has one quartz tube, a twin-tube has two parallel tubes. Single-tube is suitable for uniform area irradiation, twin-tube for higher power densities on the same area.
In which wavelengths are single-tube lamps available? — Short-wave (SW) and medium-wave (MW). The choice depends on the absorption behavior of the material to be dried — SOPARA advises in their own test laboratory.
How long does a SOPARA single-tube lamp last? — The lifespan depends on operating hours and switching cycles. SOPARA lamps are designed for industrial continuous operation and provide specific figures after process analysis.
Can individual lamps be replaced in existing IR fields? — In principle yes — SOPARA checks compatibility and designs the appropriate solution if needed.
